Andhra Tomato Pappu

A traditional Andhra-style dal made with toor dal, tomatoes, and simple tempering. This comforting dish pairs perfectly with hot rice.

Ingredients
  

1 cup toor dal

2 tomatoes chopped

2 green chillies

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp tamarind pulp

Salt to taste

2 tsp oil

1 tsp mustard seeds

Curry leaves

Method
 

1 Wash the toor dal and pressure cook with turmeric.

2 Mash the cooked dal until smooth.

3 Add chopped tomatoes and green chillies.

4 Cook for 5 minutes.

5 Heat oil and add mustard seeds and curry leaves.

6 Pour tempering over dal and mix well.

7 Serve hot with rice.
